The Age of Trump and the future President Cortez
This headline may seem like a joke, but it is not and neither is AOC despite what some may say; she’s the Trump of the Left and a future president.
I was one of those people that severely misunderestimated Trump early on in the primary but as I paid more attention to his style and rehtoric I realized that THIS was the new normal. The age of Stone style politics had finally arrived and the age of “respectable” leaders and congenial debates on stage was over.
The age of the infamous had already entered the general culture and now it had finally permeated the political culture. Trump emerged because he understood the culture and this is what the culture now demands.
Most voters are not deep thinkers, they believe what they believe and no amount of facts, photographs or studies will change their mind. If you believe that immigrants are the ones most responsible for scamming and bloating the welfare system there’s no way I can change your mind any more than I can the person who thinks that all speech they don’t like is hate speech.
As much crap as people gave AOC about the Factually incorrect/Morally right statement (and rightly so) it’s exactly the strategy trump successfully used and why he won in 2016. His statements are ones that appeal to the morality of his base and facts rarely match up, but it doesnt matter, what matters is that they speak to groups who want to hear certain things.
AOC Is a sociopath (most if not all politicians are) and MUCH smarter than people on the right and in the Dem. establishment give her credit for. She understands that politics is about winning, that everything is fair to win and that it’s better to be infamous than not famous at all. Politics is marketing, pure and simple. Your ideas and plan don’t have to work, numbers never need to match up, the ONLY thing you need to do is SELL YOUR IDEA BETTER THAN THE OTHER GUY SELLS HIS.
She is doing that.
She came out of nowhere to beat an incumbent (not easy) and win the general (easy). She is now a Freshman Congresswoman who was able to parlay no political clout but high visibilty into an ACTUAL committee seat which rarely happens. Her only downfall early on could be if she tries to push TOO much on the Pelosi/Clinton establishment before she has a more solid foundation, but I think her appointment to a committee means she has signaled she will play ball to a certain level and has a newly honed understanding of how the game is played.
She, like Trump knows how social media works and its power to control the narrative surrounding her. The field of 2020 and likely 2024 candidates in the democratic party are not anywhere near as good. Elizabeth Warren’s fumbling attempt at Instagram shows she’s as savvy as Hillary’s “Chillen in Cedar Rapids” Snapchat cringefest. Beto is no better, who really thinks that a live stream at the dentist was a slam dunk PR win? I will say that Bernie has a good social media game, but this is 100% due to his millenial base (who is also AOC’s) and not anything that he does directly.
Look at how Trump has operated since his announcment in 2015, the strategy is simple, OWN THE NEWS CYCLE. AOC creates her own controvesy whenever she wants and she is never really on the defensive, she is always on the attack and/or reacting to the defenses people throw up to her attacks.
She owned the right media with the Boston University dancing video. They played to their audience, but its clear they dont understand the culture or social media… It only made her look more fun, relatable, fresh air, etc.
Max Keiser has said the Presidential roadmap is a Trump 2020, AOC 2024… I’m, not 100% that Trump will be re-elected although there’s a good chance (unless the economy tanks). The most likely scenario is that Trump holds the economy together until after the election, he gets re-elected and then sometime soon after we face a REAL recession, way worse than 2008 and in this economic downturn the DSA provocateurs will use Trump as a muse for their message of failed Capitalism. He is Capitalism, markets failed, trust us.
Then things will get very interesting…
